Impact and Risk Analyses of Long-Term Climate Variability on Food and Environmental Security in Tarlac Province

Impact and Risk Analyses of Long-Term Climate Variability on Food and Environmental Security in Tarlac Province contributes to improving community adaptation schemes by characterizing, assessing and predicting the future of food resources through Participatory ‘Action’ Research in Tarlac, which is a “hotspot” that experiences biophysical and socio-economic tensions as a result of change. The ECCRI has produced the Solar-Powered Ultrasonic Flood Detector System under this project which serves as a disaster risk management device to detect and forecast threatening flood events so that farmers can be alerted in advance and can undertake appropriate responses to minimize the impact of the event. The organization has installed these flood detectors in their three municipality-beneficiaries namely Panique, Pura and Ramos in Tarlac which can also be beneficial in monitoring the food security and environmental security of the communities.

Aside from the flood detector systems, the organization also conducted different activities in the three communities such as risk assessment, risk management, cos-benefit analysis, policy analysis, development of a guide book, climate modeling and projections, tropical cyclones mapping and humanitarian and advocacy activities. The organization’s project in Tarlac is their 24th study after their projects in Quezon Province, Palawan, Quirino Province, Nueva Ecija, Sorsogon, and other remote areas in the country.
