Project Title: “Organisadong Binyagan”
The Sacrament of Baptism is the first among the Seven Sacraments instituted by Christ. For Christians, to be baptized is to become a member of the church. In a depressed community in Alabang, Muntinlupa, getting the kids baptized seemed to be last on their parents’ to-do-list. Not because they do not want their kids to receive the Holy Sacrament, but they just can’t afford it.
This situation led the Indak ng Kabataan Youth Organization to organize an “Organisadong Binyagan,” which focuses on kids ages 3 and above in their community to receive the Sacrament of Baptism. The group raised money to fund the project by joining dance contests, cleaning canals in nearby communities, and through support from some City officials. The project run through not just once, but thrice.
The Indak ng Kabataan Youth Organization was founded on July 26, 2006 in a depressed area in Alabang, Muntinlupa City. The organization aims to help their community through projects that focus on the youth. The group started with at least 60% of its members was “drug addict.” Today, the IKYO proved that there’s always a room for change. Thus, the once “perwisyo sa komunidad” is now the “pag-asa ng bayan.”
