Case Follow-up for Jail Decongestion and Inmates Paralegal Training Program
University of San Jose Recoletos – School of Law Advocacy and Community Enrichment (USJR-SOLACE)
Case Follow-up for Jail Decongestion and Inmates Paralegal Training Program is an initiative to decongest and to protect the rights of detainees to fair and speedy trial in Mandaue City Jail. Under this program, SOLACE conducts jail visit and inmates interview. Inmates are interviewed on facts and reason of their detention. Their cases are being followed-up by SOLACE members with the courts where their cases are pending. SOLACE, in partnership with the Humanitarian Legal Assistance Foundation (HLAF), serves the inmates by training Inmate Paralegal Aides that will engage in providing their co-inmates with knowledge on their rights and pertinent laws regarding their cases.
The goal is to help expedite the release of detainees and prisoners, conduct case follow-ups and hold paralegal trainings for detainees and stakeholders. Through these, detainees are given the privileged to be trained, to learn their rights, and the privilege to help their co-inmates. The organization is not only giving these inmates hope, but the organization make them feel that they can also give hope to others.
