Project Entry: “Tatlong Libong Bayani ng Ibalong: Imagining, Realizing Contemporary Heroes of the Ibalong Epic”
In each one of, there lies a hero. Thus, the Aquinas University of Legaspi’s STAGE or the Sama-samang Tinig ng mga Aktor na Gumagalaw sa Entablado started its search for 3,000 heroes through their “Tatlong Libong Bayani ng Ibalong” project. The project is an artistical/theatrical production that involves strong framework of research, community immersion and extension, and Forum Theater.
Through the forum theater phase, they include young people from selected communities and make them part of the play’s creative process. These young people gather their ideas and put it into one production, as staged by the AUL-STAGE group. During the run of their performances, the group aims to have at least 3,000 people sign up to become modern heroes of Ibalong, an epic which tells that there are only three Bikol heroes namely Baltog, Handyong, and Bantong.
The Aquinas University of Legaspi’s STAGE or the Sama-samang Tinig ng mga Aktor na Gumagalaw sa Entablado was established on June 15, 1987. The group is composed of art scholars of the university. AUL-STAGE regularly produces socially relevant plays staged in and outside the Bikol Region.
