Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations of 2008

The TAYO National Finals Week, held last December 13-18 2008, capped the implementation of the 6th Search for the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations.  The five days were capped with teambuilding, institutional visits, the National Judging, the Awarding, and media visits for the national finalists and winners of TAYO 6.  The ten youth organizations were announced during the awarding ceremonies held last December 16, 2008 at the Grand Ballroom Renaissance Hotel in Makati City.

Before these twenty organizations were selected, more than 100 youth organizations nationwide underwent the rigorous search process.  Eighty organizations were selected for field validation during four area screenings held in different areas of the country.

Ten organizations per area (Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and NCR) were selected to undergo the Area Finals.  This phase is a mini-National Finals, consisting of a team-building day and the Area Judging.  Select panels of judges were drafted to select the best five organizations to represent each area in the National Finals.

A formidable panel of judges faced the finalists this year.  TAYO Awards Foundation President Bam Aquino and Senator Kiko Pangilinan co-chaired during the judging.  The panel was completed by the presence of NYC Commissioner Princess Abante, Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines President Cecile Alcantara, TeaM Energy Foundation Executive Director Bobby Calingo, DSWD Undersecretary Celia Yangco, PSC Commissioner Akiko Thomson, Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist Rina Jimenez-David, ABS-CBN Head for Corporate Communications Bong Osorio, Shell Sustainable Development Manager Chito Maniago, , and GoNegosyo Deputy Executive Director Raffy Ortega.

Winning this year’s search are the following organizations: Dynamic Teen Company, Cavite City; Society of Scholars and Grantees, Benguet State University; Kabataang Gabay sa Positibong Pamumuhay, Bacolod City; UP Cebu SEALNet Entrepreneurs’ Club, UP High School Cebu; Youth Advocates Through Theater Arts, Dumaguete City; 505 Disaster Rescuers for Emergencies, Assistance and Management, Inc., Kidapawan City; Lamlifew 4-H Club, Malungon, Sarangani; School of Business and Management Student Council, Xavier University; Jose Rizal University Computer Society, Mandaluyong City; and Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity, UP Manila.

The National Finalists for this year are: Bitagurean 4-H Club, San Gabriel, La Union; University of Northern Philippines – College Science Club, Vigan City; UP SIBOL (Service, Integrity, Benevolence, Objectivity, Leadership), Los Baños, Laguna; Katin-Aran Youth Association, Roxas City; Waray-Waray Youth Advocates, Catbalogan City; Service, Home, Education, Livelihood, Trainings, Environmental Protection and Relief Operations (S.H.E.L.T.E.R.), Zamboanga City; Youth Advocators Productive Integrated Service, Inc. (YAPIS), Iligan City; Agapay, Kalinga at Kuwentong Alay ng mga Pharmaceutico, UP Manila; Ateneo Debate Society, Quezon City; and Tugon, Ateneo de Manila University.
